Making Historical Garments

IMG_2482I’ve made my own clothes, soft furnishings, curtains and anything else you can get under a sewing machine needle for as long as I can remember, and I’m pretty good at it. I like really odd things, the kind of stuff you’d look at and say “you’re surely not intending to wear that outside the house, are you?” I do have a pretty odd assortment of things in my wardrobe, it has to be said. I still never have anything to wear on any given occasion, but that might be more to do with the fact that I’m never the same size from one season to the next. There are things like the Renaissance dress I made to wear for a friend’s medieval-themed wedding – it was, is, gorgeous, the velvet I bought for it alone cost well over £250, and I wore it out of the house only the one time!
